Foreclosures start creeping up

by | Jan 20, 2024 | Bankruptcy, Chapter 13, Coronavirus, Foreclosure

After many states, including Minnesota, imposed moratoria on foreclosures following the onset of the pandemic, combined with other federal programs pausing the need to make ongoing payments, foreclosures have started increasing. Foreclosures are still hardly seen, because first off, most mortgage companies now have well-developed lost mitigation departments that offer decent modification terms, and perhaps more importantly, homeowners now have equity and have the opportunity to sell their house if they can’t reinstate or modify. Chapter 13 still remains a viable option to get current on mortgage arrears if your mortgage company won’t work with you.
