SeaQuest Holdings, an Idaho-based company operating interactive aquariums in shopping malls, has filed for bankruptcy protection and is seeking to expedite the sale of its assets to Z&A Management LLC for $80,000. The company, which has faced allegations of animal abuse and neglect, is asking the court to approve the sale quickly due to the urgent need for animal care and lack of funds to sustain operations. The sale includes all equipment, tools, furniture, fixtures, and animals at its remaining locations at Rosedale in Minnesota, as well as Utah, Las Vegas, Boise, New Jersey, and California. The court hearing is set for January 31, with objections to be filed by January 29. If the sale is not completed by mid-February, the welfare of the animals and business operations will be at risk. Ramsey County is said to be currently investigating the Roseville aquarium, and several animal rights groups have called for SeaQuest’s closure due to its practices.
