Loan modification programs expire December 31, 2016

| Oct 18, 2016 | Bankruptcy, Firm News

Unless Congress acts to extend this, which I would consider unlikely in light of improving economy and Congress’ general inability to get things done, the HAMP loan modification program will sunset December 31, 2016.

This program helped many people save their homes by wrapping arrears back into the mortgage, re-amortizing over up to 40 years, keeping payments at 31% of income, reducing interest, and most importantly, reducing the overall payment.

More information on the sunsetting, and how it affects pending cases, can be found here. Reference can also be made to Treasury Supplemental Directive 16-02.
