Creditors are trying to garnish my wages, how can I prevent this from happening?

On Behalf of | Sep 3, 2013 | Bankruptcy, Chapter 7, Firm News

Filing bankruptcy is the short (and best) answer.

Of course, sometimes creditors will threaten to garnish, but they can only do so if they have gotten a judgment, and know where you work. So if that’s the case, you are running out of time.

If you are on any public assistance, you can fill out an exemption form, which can prevent them from garnishing as long as you are on public assistance, but the judgment won’t go away unless you pay it off or file bankruptcy.

If they do garnish you, we can almost always recover anything that was garnished in the prior 90 days, once we file your case.
